Podcast Book Club - "Last Seen"

  • House of Pod 2565 Curtis Street Denver United States (map)

First of all, what is this event? It's a book club, but for podcasts. Every month, we choose a different show, listen to it independently, then come together to talk about it. It's a ton of fun, I promise.

This month we're listening to Last Seen, a true crime podcast that's NOT about a murder. How novel! Instead, this one is about an art heist. It's a collab from WBUR and Boston Globe about the 1990 theft of $500 million worth of art from Boston's Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum.

It's only ten episodes. They're not that long. Let's try to aim for a spoiler-filled discussion.

As for my perspective, I think this one got lost in the shuffle a bit last year. There were so many pretty good serials like this. I dunno. I can't explain it. Why do some "pop" and others "flop"? Let's talk about it!

Possible discussion questions: What makes one of these serialized narrative shows rise to the top in a saturated podcast ecosystem? Does art matter? How do you feel about that big finale? What are the ethics of a true-crime podcaster? What type of story needs a 10-episode serial treatment?
