<image:title>About</image:title>
<image:caption>Pay & Transparency We believe that a diversity of life experiences is more important than a degree, and we consider our identities and the roles they play in every production. We prioritize staffing our productions with members of the communities most affected by the story, and for this reason, we hire contractors uniquely suited to shape each story. Our pay-scale is $50 - $200/hour depending on experience level and contracted project. We are a 100% women-owned independent company, and examples of past productions, such as Guardians of the River was staffed with over 60% of the team BIPOC and based out of Southern Africa. We are funded entirely through grants, selling original work, and our partnership projects. In 2022, our grant funding includes an NEH grant and a Templeton Foundation grant, awarded to our partners at SAPIENS Magazine and the Wenner-Gren Foundation. Past grants have included a National Geographic Storytelling Grant.</image:caption>

<image:caption>We are proud to share that this production has been chosen as a Tribeca Select and a finalist for best podcast at the Jackson Wild Film Festival. This series has also won Best Narrative Nonfiction Podcast at Tribeca Festival 2021, and has topped the Apple Podcast charts as a top 10 science podcast, and the number one nature podcast of all time. For this production, we applied for a grant together with only a vague idea around the story and subject of the show. The House of Pod team then spent four months in the field recording, and a year and a half developing the core premise and concept of the show, logging tape, translating and transcribing interviews, designing and contracting music, developing and researching scripts, re-recording and conducting interviews, and training international producers and talent from the communities represented in the show. We then fact-checked, sensitivity-tested, and story-edited all scripts; created the art and distribution strategy; edited, treated, and sound designed all audio; and marketed and promoted the show.
